LEGAL

Texting clients the compliant way, from the first message.

A law firm that wanted to text its contacts from GoHighLevel, and planned to start by sending an "authorization text" to ask for permission.

The problem

What was going wrong

The plan was to text the contact list first and ask for consent in that message. Under US texting law, that first business text itself needs prior consent, so the plan would have created legal exposure and an almost certain A2P rejection.

The website was also missing what carriers check during review: SMS language in the privacy policy, a terms page, and a proper opt-in on the form.

What I built

The system, piece by piece

Number setup and forwarding

A GHL number forwarding to the firm's existing line, with GHL chat connected so conversations live in one place.

Privacy Policy and Terms of Service content

Full, ready-to-publish pages with SMS and A2P clauses, California privacy rights, cookies, data security, and a clear statement that contacting the firm does not create an attorney-client relationship.

A reviewed consent checkbox

The opt-in language on the website form was checked to make sure SMS consent is separate and not bundled with anything else.

An A2P registration checklist

An editable document covering brand registration, website requirements and campaign registration: legal details that must match the tax records exactly, sample messages, and how opt-in is collected.

Reasoning

Why it was built this way

Why the consent fix came before any building

Sending first and asking later is exactly the pattern carriers reject. Correcting it up front avoids a failed registration, weeks of delay, and legal risk for a firm that cannot afford it.

Why the legal pages are part of the job

Carriers look at the website during campaign review. Missing SMS clauses are one of the most common reasons registrations are rejected, so the pages are part of getting texting live, not an extra.

What changed

The result

The firm has compliant policy pages, a consent checkbox that meets carrier rules, and a clear list of everything A2P registration needs, instead of a texting plan that would have been rejected.

Described in terms of what the system does. No performance figures are published here, because none have been independently verified.

Recognise any of this in your setup?

Every project starts with an audit of what you already have, sent to you in writing before any building starts.
